Recent Reviews of the Puroair 400 Air Cleaner

Let me tell you what changed my thinking on air purifiers.

I always assumed they were mostly the same. Different sizes, different price points, but fundamentally the same technology doing the same thing. Buy one that fits your room, change the filter occasionally, done.

Then I started actually reading about filter grades.  Most air purifiers — including some well known and well reviewed ones — use a HEPA 13 filter. It's the consumer standard. It captures 99.97 percent of particles at 0.3 microns and for most people that sounds good enough. It probably is good enough for a lot of situations.

But HEPA 14 is a different conversation entirely.  HEPA 14 is medical grade. It's the filtration tier used in hospital operating rooms and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments where air quality isn't a preference, it's a requirement. Independent testing puts it at ten times more effective than HEPA 13 at capturing the fine particulate matter most linked to respiratory issues and allergy symptoms. The PuroAir 400 is built around a HEPA 14 filter — capturing 99.99 percent of airborne particles down to 0.1 microns.  Add the activated carbon layer for odors and VOCs. Add the pre-filter that protects and extends the inner layers. Add the smart sensor that adjusts automatically based on real time air quality readings. Put it in a unit verified to cover 2,000 square feet by an independent ISO certified lab.  That's when I stopped treating air purifiers as interchangeable.
